pieces all HS kids should “know”
Due to auditorium scheduling, I was forced to have my concerts a month before the end of school. I have plenty of things that I can do with them before the end of school, but I am looking for some help from the community on one unit. I want to spend a week listening to choral works and […]
6th grade choir retention concerns
So this year I had a very small 6th grade chorus…13 total! I was fortunate enough to really have some smart and awesome kids. However, next yeear they only get one elective again because they have to take a P.E credit. The thing about smart 11 and 12 year olds is that they have lots […]
Looking for “Who shall speak for the people?” text by Carl Sandburg, male choir & piano
Back in the ’60s & ’70s, the Augustana College Choir’s Wennerberg Chorus (all male) directed by Henry Veld, performed the aforementioned several times. The last concert is done. Now what?

Thanks to videoconferencing, the students […]

SSA/A Star Spangled Banner–freely available?
Hello Colleagues: A small group from my women’s community chorus has just been asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event later this month. We do not generally sing the Star Spangled Banner, and we have used up our music budget for the year. Do you know of a freely-available (public domain […]
DMA/PhD = overqualification for high school positions?
Dear Colleagues, I am considering pursuing either a DMA or PhD to be qualified for collegiate teaching. I would, however, still like to be marketable for high school choral positions–especially if no college positions are available. In your opinion/experience, is obtaining a doctorate overeducating oneself for a high school position? Some advice I have received […]
