Boyce Alleluia
Friends, I am trying to find the source for the well-known 3-part ALLELUIA round by William Boyce. Many arrangements abound but I’d like to know where the original comes from. My research so far has come up with nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Walter Wells
Thinking ahead…programming for a 300th Birthday Celebration!
In 2012, the 300th birthday of Giacomo Puccini “senior” (1712-1781), the great great grandfather of the more famous opera composer of the same name, will be celebrated. Puccini “senior” was a native of Lucca, Italy and composer of a large amount of sacred Latin works for chorus and orchestra. His compositions display colorful, at times […]
shoulder pain
Not sure if this is the proper forum for this question, but… I’ve begun to notice some shoulder tenderness and weakness, which I attribute to conducting. Any suggestions for good books, resources, etc. for proper exercises to strengthen and increase flexibility in my shoulders. This is not a problem – yet – but I’d […]
World Music
I’m adding a new HS music elective to our course catalogue for next year – World Music. Any suggestion for good text(s) and/or resources? This will be a 12-week non-technical survey course of music around the world. Ideas?
Railings for Risers
Aloha, I teach in a small private school. A year ago we purchased some wonderful Wenger Tourmaster portable risers, which have worked nicely. Considering purchasing the back and side rails also, but it’s quite an expenditure for us. Thoughts?
A Cappella Neapolitan arrangements
Colleagues, I’m not making much headway in my search for music of Southern Italy for our tour. Keep sending those ideas along (and I do know of Palestrina). Latest thought – does anyone have/know of arrangements of any of the typical Neapolitan songs (‘Funiculi, Funicula”; “O Sole Mio”) for mixed choir a cappella? I […]
Ergen Deda
Dear Choral Directors, Ergen Deda by Peter Lyondev…does anyone have word by word translation? Or, a summary what the folk song is about? I know it’s Bulgarian, but that’s about it. Please help me clear the clouds.
Jim Clancy Arrangements
I’m trying to find a source for Jim Clancy arrangements–specifically his setting of “That Wonderful Mother of Mine.” If you know of any other decent Barbershop arrangements of this piece, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Issues for pieces with instrumenalists
I am an undergraduate music education major taking a choral class for instrumentalists. We are giving presentations about issues that are specific to choir teachers. My particular topic is this: What issues might arise in working with instrumentalists and singers within the same piece? This might include, but not be limited to accompanists, pieces that are […]
Creating a children’s community chorus
For our winter concert this year, the director of our adult choral society brought together 5 children’s choirs from local churches to sing a few pieces on the program, and the audience response was overwhelmingly positive. Now we are brainstorming with the board about the creation of a children’s community chorus. It would initially be […]
