Catchy Choir names???

This may be a strange request, but I’m considering changing the name of my church youth choir, now simply called “Chapel Choir.”  I’m looking for something that the kids would really buy into.  I know that there are some neat Latin names, but I don’t know how those appeal to youth these days, especially without […]

21st Century Show Music

It was an interesting day. First, settled a personnel question for our summer musical orchestra, one of many that come in a continuous series. Then off with my tuba to play with the community band for a Ruritan Club Fish Fry. (Hey, this is a big deal. Through their monthly fish-fries and other fundraising, they […]

seeking a work for Children’s Choir and SATB choir

I am looking for a medium length work (15-30 minutes) for my children’s choir and SATB choir to perform together in the coming year.  Preferably in the spring, so no Chrismtas pieces, please.  We are already planning on doing Rutter’s Mass for the Children in the following year.  Any other great suggestions?  Thanks!

Children’s choir sing the song of Prévert (chanson de Prévert)

An excerpt of a concert given on the 27th June 2010 in the church of Sainte-Sabine-sur-Longève (Sarthe, France), for the inauguration of 11 new stained glass windows of the church. The Children’s choir “Les Cagou’s”, conducted by Evelyne Béché (http://evelynebeche.olympe-network.com/children_choir_caslum.html) sing “The song of Prévert” (“La chanson de Prévert” in french) by Serge Gainsbourg.  Watch […]

Uniform Policy for Youth Community Choir

We are in the process of redefining our uniform policy for the community choir I direct.     Currently we charge a uniform fee (of $30) to help absorb the purchase of new uniforms.  Students may purchase uniforms “along the way,” avoiding the need to pay uniform fees in subsequent years.  If students outgrow their […]

Looking for repertoire for next season?

My piece Mary’s First Lullaby, for SATB/piano or cello, has just been published by Yelton Rhodes Music.  Here’s a link to a sample PDF of the piece, along with samples of other dandy holiday pieces:   http://www.yrmusic.com/v2/download/perusalpdfs/yrm.mths.php   More info about this piece is available at my website, along with links to other published works, […]

Touring company for Russia

Hello everyone!   We are in the early stages of planning a Youth Choir Tour to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Voronezh, Russia for 2012, and I am wondering – do you all have recommendations for a tour company? We’ve always handled our own travel but with the ins and outs of travel in Russia, we’re […]

Working on a new Choral Initiative for Orlando

I have recently founded The Orlando Choral Foundation.   This past year was marred by the loss of the Orlando Opera Company, a real cohesive element in the Orlando Choral community. The Orlando Choral Foundation will work to provide oranization and opportunities for performance for the many talented singers in Orlando. The first project of […]
