Hi Everyone, I have a mixed 8th grade group that is just beginning to “get” 3-part (SAT/B) harmonies.  The boys (14 of them) are starting to hold their own, but mostly I’ve been having them double other parts in some SA or SSA selections.   I typically like to introduce one classical style piece for my […]

South American music

Greetings colleagues –   I will be traveling to Lima, Peru in April.  I know there are many composers who were the maestros of the cathedral there, particularly the baroque ones, and am wondering if any of you know how I could approach anyone there – I speak no Spanish, unfortunately – who could help […]

special rithmic scores

Dear friends, I  am interested in  special  rithmic scores, may be exercises,    to use in  choir rehearsals   as  a  kind of  musical  trening. I think this is will help us  in jazz and modern music . I prefer to use very simple instruments,  claps and so on.  May be  3-4 diffferent  parts.  Could somebody help […]

Is there a maximum “range” for a tessitura?

Hello,   While range refers to the spectrum of notes from the lowest to the highest in a piece, and tessitura refers to which part of that range is most used, I’m wondering what the “range” of a tessitura could be. In other words, is there a maximum interval for tessituras (5ths, 6ths, 7ths, octaves, […]

Hello,   I am about to graduate with my Master’s in Vocal Pedagogy and have read Barbara Doscher’s “The Functional Unity of the Singing Voice” among other pedagogy books for the voice, but there is one aspect on which I would like clarification.   Doscher has the formant following chart, which I adapted.  In the […]

Durufle: Ubi Caritas

Friends:   Above the alto part in measures 18, 19, & 20, there is a notation, (“Altos un peu en dehors jusqu’a “Ubi caritas”).  Strict translation would be, “Altos a little outside until “Ubi caritas”.   Any thoughts on what Durufle meant, wanted at this point?   Also, any interpretation thoughts would be appreciated also.   […]

Trumpet in F Mendelssohn Ps 42

I received the orchestra parts for Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42.  The trumpet part is in F and the French Horn Part is in C.  Has anyone performed this work with Bb trumpets and F Horns? Can it be performed this way?  If so, how did you transpose the parts?  Or does anyone have the transposed parts?
