ISLE OF WIGHT, UK — INTERNATIONALLY renowned soprano singer Lesley Garrett will be the special guest at a concert led by a massed choir, including Island ensembles, at the first Isle of Arts festival.

More than 100 choristers will include the 45-strong Medina High Community Choir and another Island group, the Community Glee Club, with the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir, and the Hart Male Voice Choir, from Odiham, Hampshire.

They will sing selections from their own repertoires and some pieces with Lesley, at the concert, to be held at Salisbury Gardens, Ventnor, on Saturday, April 16.

The acclaimed vocalist, with a highly distinguished career with the English National Opera, will sing a selection of her favourite solos.

Pianist Ian Reid will accompany Lesley and the Medina High Community Choir.

The choir, under the musical direction of Hannah Brear, is expected to open the show.

It was in the spotlight at last summer’s IW Festival, performing with Woodstock legend Melanie, and when it competed against choirs nationally in BBC Radio 3’s Choir of the Year competition. They have also toured northern France.
