This lovely selection by composer Leonard Enns, “Deep Peace, Healing Light,” provides ample opportunity for suspensions, non-chord tones, and clusters, while only requiring three voice parts. This piece is ideal for concert or contest; it can also be used for funerals, retirements, graduations, or other community events where peace and/or reconciliation is the focus.

#40: Friday, January 4, 2019. “Sweet Radiant Mystery” by Catherine Dalton. Four-part equal voices, piano or handbells.
As an extended round, this piece should be a quick read, even for less experienced ensembles, and is suitable for a number of concert themes and pedagogical uses. It is so much more than “just” a round though. There is beauty found between the notes, and within each overlapping imitation. Savoring these moments creates a contemplative cloud that envelops the singer and the audience alike.

On first glance, “A Round for Hildegard” may seem a bit daunting, with a listed voicing of SSSSAAA. Do not be deterred though! At its core, it is a large round in seven parts. With strings, percussion, and handclaps, this song joyfully rings in the holiday season for your advanced or small-but-mighty women’s/treble ensemble.
