James Jordan, Jason Dungee, Kari Adams and Mak Barton

August 23, 2024 by Chris Munce Leave a Comment

Choir is not my family, we aren’t adjusting choral curriculum sufficiently with the times, we don’t know how to get choirs to sing in tune and we don’t build “real” cultures in our classrooms. Geez! Is this a negative podcast?! Not. At. All. These four conversations do have an element of constructive criticism, but that is NOT what you will take a away. These episodes are fun, fast paced and the absolutely best PD you can get. On demand and it’s free.

Teachers are getting back in work mode, community and church choirs are firing back up! The month of July had some incredible moments on the show, so if you were taking a break from choir stuff, this is your chance to get caught up. I have been proud of MANY episodes over the show’s 5.5 year history, but this might have been the most solid MONTH of programming we have put together so far.

The July Episodes

Episode 205 was special for a few reasons. First, it marked the start of yet another exciting collaboration on the show with the new GIA/Walton series in which I will be working together with the great American publishing house to bring you some conversations with some movers and shakers in the field. But, more importantly, this episode with James Jordan was JAM PACKED with usable ideas and tips for directors wanting their choirs to improve their sound and intonation. Episode 206, welcomes Dr. Kari Adams in my home studio to share ideas about ways to build a “real” and enduring culture in your ensembles.

Mak Barton joined me in Episode 207 to discuss the issues many young, or next generation, music educators concern themselves with in their teaching. The conversation centered on connecting the fundamentals of choral music to the musical ideas kids are ALREADY interested in. And finally, Episode 208 with Dr. Jason Dungee was a challenge to all group leaders to consider “motivational diversity.” Put simply, we don’t know why all of our singers join the group. They are not all there for the same reasons, and that’s ok.

I am also excited to welcome a NEW Show Partner in Kaleidescope Adventures, as well as a new affiliate Three Minute Theory which now has a 15% Choralosophy coupon code!! You can see ALL of the amazing organizations that support this show at Choralosophy.com/show-sponsors
