Rebecca Oswald’s “Wise Words of Love” for women’s ensemble
My treble ensemble recently performed a work by Rebecca Oswald – Wise Words of Love. It is written for SSAA and piano, and is based on Shakespearean quotations by women characters, all in reference to love. The work is about 13 minutes long and has nine movements. It is a challenging work both for vocalists […]
Multi-voiced Warm-ups
Does anyone have any suggestions for chordal choral vocal warm-ups for SAB, SATB, and/or SSA. Not super complex and complicated so we can work on tuning. I’m going to write some using standard chord progressions, but I’m not very strong at this. Are there any print resources available? The warm-up vocalises that I currently have […]
“Movin’ On” choral works
I’ve selected the theme “Movin’ On” for my group’s Spring concert and am hoping to program pieces focusing on travel, modes of transportation and the like. I would like to peruse a copy of “Up, Up and Away”, SATB before purchasing it, if possible, but sheetmusicplus, the only supplier I can find, will only sell […]
Overtone series; singing overtones
Colleagues: I’m working with a student who wants to know more about singing overtones (in the manner of the piece “Past Life Melodies,” if you’re familiar). I’ve read and learned about the science of the overtone series before and have held onto the necessary basics, but this will involve some re-learning and new learning […]
“Oh Freedom”/Songs that Change(d) the World
I am programming a concert for my women’s chorus around the theme “Songs of Power.” I would like to include songs that have “changed the world,” having been sung as part of great social movements. So I have two questions for you: 1. I would love to include at least one song from the […]

Board members and executive director Donavon Soumas said last week that the H.E.R.I.T.A.G.E. (Helping to Enhance Resources by Incorporating The Arts to Gain Education) Show Choir suspended operations a little more than a month ago due to funding shortages. The nonprofit foundation of the same name, through which the choir is managed, remains active as officials mull […]
New copyright ruling affects educators
A new ruling from the U.S. Copyright Office will affect how higher education students and teachers can use digital material in the classroom, thanks to the proactive efforts of a university professor who says that increasing digital literacy and student skills is a responsibility educators can’t afford to brush off. Thanks to a small […]
Mormon Tabernacle Choir voted into National Radio Hall of Fame
“Music and the Spoken Word,” the longest continuous network radio broadcast, featuring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, has been voted into the National Radio Hall of Fame (NRHOF). The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and other honorees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Nov. 6 during a two-hour long radio event.
REMEMBER by Stanley M. Hoffman
My SATB composition REMEMBER will be released by Oxford University Press in the autumn of 2010. I will announce the formal release of this title on ChoralNet once it begins to circulate. In the mean time, here is what OUP has to say about it. The text below is taken verbatim from their music bulletin […]
