STAFFORDSHIRE, UK — AN all-male choir has taken the decision to recruit female members – for the first time in 41 years. Members of Stone Male Voice Choir are reinventing the group after losing their conductor and around 20 members over the past five years. Now they are appealing for new male and female singers to join rehearsals ahead of a name change.
Retired headteacher, Grahame Edwards, has been reinstated as musical director after a successful run with the choir from 1998 to 2002. Under Mr Edwards, the group successfully got to grips with Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, a song which the band themselves had rarely performed live. Mr Edwards said he is excited to get back to rehearsals.
“After some persuasion by the choir members and my wife, Rita, I decided to come out of retirement,” he said. “I am looking forward to incorporating female voices into the arrangements.
