Music for Veterans Day this Sunday. If you have not heard Benjamin
Britten’s War Requiem, it is profoundly moving on so many levels. Britten was anti-war.
He abhorred war and its senseless violence. He wrote his Requiem for the re-consecration
of Coventry Cathedral which had been destroyed in World War II. But Britten was also
passionate about reconciliation which is one of the reasons he specifically wrote music
for three soloists: a German bass, a Russian soprano and an English tenor.
We honor all veterans on November 11. Immediately following Great Sacred Music
