New choral work about an autistic experience

December 11, 2025 by ascurria Leave a Comment

Hello,

I’m a composer and autistic woman, and I wanted to share a new SATB piece, recently published, about my autistic experience. Commissioned for the Contemporary American Vocal Music Initiative by Dr. Jerron Jorgensen and the Choirs of Southern Oregon University.

Conductors who’ve programmed it so far have described it as:

  • “A deeply validating piece for neurodivergent students.”

  • “Warm, lyrical, emotionally honest.”

  • “A safe piece for choirs to talk about identity and belonging.”

Details:

SATB & piano / ~8:30 / Strong emotional arc; accessible but expressive lines / Works beautifully for high school, college, and community choirs

Score + audio sample:

I’m happy to answer any questions about programming or context.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Warmly,

Amy Scurria
