Once in a Lullaby:  The PS22 Chorus Story – USA, Feature Documentary, 2012, 87 min. – Sunday, 12:30 p.m., Boulder High School – Directed by Jonathan Kalafer
This 5th grade chorus from Staten Island is pretty good—50 million YouTube hits good. As you’ll see in this fantastic documentary, these kids are just ordinary rambunctious, never-sit-still 10-year-olds who have had the wonderful luck to discover the vast inner talent and power that they never knew they had. That’s what great teachers and coaches do. This is a film about high excitement, being invited to perform at the 83rd Annual Academy Award Ceremony, seeing Disneyland for the first time and walking backstage to rehearse for the first time at the magnificent Kodak Theater. But most of all, excitement is having a coach like the sensational Mr. B (Gregg Brienberg), who hugs every kid and wipes off every tear. This movie is about what it means to invest in children, and the incredible lessons that the arts and great teachers can provide.
