Happy Labor Day! The month of August had five Fridays, so you got five episodes to get our school and choir years started! It is my sincere belief that thinking deeply and discussing the art of Choral Music and the science of music education are critical. There is no place better to do that than right here. I am also excited to welcome a NEW Show Partner in Kaleidescope Adventures, as well as a new affiliate Three Minute Theory which now has a 15% Choralosophy coupon code!! You can see ALL of the amazing organizations that support this show at Choralosophy.com/show-sponsors

Don’t forget to check out the shirts, mugs and wall art in the Choralosophy Shop!

Episode 209 highlights a new collaboration on Choralosophy Community! Ellie Johnson has been highlighting and guiding us to some really important education research. In this episode we break down two interesting studies. One on “low barrier for entry” choirs and another on technology in the classroom. Episode 210 is another GIA/Walton collab bringing you an interesting and useful discussion with David von Kampen about weaving music theory instruction and jazz vocal style into your choral classroom.

You can listen from the widgets below which will take you to Apple or Castbox to finish listening, or you can find the show on Google Play, Spotify, Youtube or Stitcher!

I was super pumped to land one of my favorite TikTok stars, Babatunde Hip Hopera as a guest in Episode 211 to hear how he has successfully created an Opera and Hip Hop fusion, as well as how music can so easily transcend cultural barriers if we only let it. Episode 212 welcomes one my Choir Heroes, Craig Hella Johnson. We had a great chat about programming in the modern era and how we might think of the concept of the Western Canon or Choral Canon today. He also shared some very helpful insights about ensemble culture building. Lastly, Episode 213 is the current episode. I attended Missouri’s summer convention and asked about a dozen great colleagues to share their wisdom from the convention floor. Don’t miss it!
