(The Composition Showcase is a unique resource for conductors.   Choral composers are allowed to share only a few of their best works.  Each week we offer you the best of the best on a silver platter.   The Silver Platter Award winners are works that your choirs will love to sing and your audiences will love to hear)

Silver Platter Award Winner:
Butterfly by John Beeman  SATB divisi  and piano (Click here for PDF and here for AUDIO)

Level: Advanced High School or Higher
Uses: General Concert
Program Themes:  Spring, Transformation, Insects, Things that are hidden
This Piece Would Program Well With:  Riders on the Earth by Lana Mountford  available in the Composition Showcase here on ChoralNet

The holidays are over so now we turn our sights on spring concerts.  John Beeman’s Butterfly has a lovely text to encourage our young adult singers to let their inner selves shine.  The piano plays a descriptive role.  It does not double the vocal parts but does help with entrances.  The combination of voices, piano and text makes this a work well worth performing.

Butterfly is available from JWPepper: http://www.jwpepper.com/10350238.item – .VoiqHPFTP8c
