COMPOSITION SPOTLIGHT ~ by Jack Senzig
(The Composition Showcase is a unique resource for conductors. Choral composers are allowed to share only a few of their best works. Each week we offer you the best of the best on a silver platter. The Silver Platter Award winners are works that your choirs will love to sing and your audiences will love to hear)
Silver Platter Award Winner:
Level: High School or Higher
Uses: General Concert
Program Themes: People Who Changed The World
This Piece Would Program Well With: Phil the Fluther’s Ball by Lana Mountford available in the Composition Showcase here on ChoralNet
If you want to give your choir something they can sink their teeth into as singers, just ordinary moral people or active world citizens then this is the piece. I have been personally moved by the story of Malala and find this work to be a fitting tribute. I would program it with something a bit more light-hearted as indicated above. Adrienne Albert’s Malala is a new work you would regret missing.
Malala is available from the composer’s website: http://adriennealbert.com/purchase.html#ChoralVocal
