COMPOSITION SPOTLIGHT ~ by Jack Senzig
(Each week we look at one or two of the best choral works posted in the Composition Showcase here on ChoralNet. This is where we store a treasure trove of works that your choirs will love to sing and your audiences will love to hear.)
The Holy Night by Jason Lamb SATB a cappella
Level: Advanced High School or Higher
Uses: Winter Holiday Concert
This Piece Would Program Well With: An A Cappella Christmas, Vol. 2 by Jay Rouse available at PraiseGathering.com
Beautiful, rich, approachable harmony, a lovely text, excellent tension and release, attention to matters of prosidy, what more do could you ask for? The Holy Night will fit as the showcase piece for a younger choir or alongside any of the best masterworks of the late 20th century for a more experienced ensemble.
Jason Lamb has two works on the showcase. His Au bord de l’eau is also very well written. This piece is available from the composer
