This is an appeal to the robust choral community out there. I am looking for old video of historically important choral conductors conducting, preferrably in rehearsal, but also in performance. The older the better. I think the pool of video out there on youtube just isn't deep enough, and we as a community probably could probably add to it. There are thousands of old videos of the orchestral masters in rehearsal and performance, but there just aren't that many videos for us choral folks. We could create a wonderful resource for future and current conductors to learn from the past in video format.
I'm especially looking for rehearsal videos, as well as performance videos that show the conductor from the front, not taken behind from the audience's position. I also think there is a huge lack of unaccompanied excerpts…most of the video out there is orchestral excerpts (and about half of those are from Messiah). I would also like videos of famous composers conducting or coaching in rehearsal.
If you know of videos out there on youtube that I've missed, or maybe you have something on betamax laying in your closet that's never seen the light of day, I encourage you to email me offlist with a link. I will be posting the best of these videos to this blog over the next year. Of course, please be mindful of copyright when uploading content.
