The American Choral Directors Association is south of the border this week for the inaugural U.S. / Cuba Symposium of Choral Music, May 25-31. Taking place in sunny Havana, the event features rehearsal demonstrations by Cuban choral conductors and performances by some of Cuba’s best choral ensembles; including the National Choir of Cuba, the Exaudi Chamber Choir, the Havana Polyphonic Choir, and several others. Also on the Symposium schedule is a performance by a visiting U.S. Choir: the Cardinal Singers from the University of Louisville.
The U.S. / Cuban Choral Symposium also heralds the revitalization of ACDA’s International Conductor Exchange Program. Traveling to Cuba for the Symposium are ICEP participants Reed Criddle, Monte Garret, Dan Luethi, Vic Oakes, Brett Scott, and John Warren.
We are thrilled that ACDA can take a leading role in this exchange. It is our hope that our choral art will forward the cause of mutual understanding and peace. We hope this event will have a positive and far reaching impact.
