Decommissioning a Choir Robe

October 31, 2011 by philip copeland Leave a Comment

Some of you might be interested in this – a "decommissioning liturgy" for a choir robe.

Samford University first purchased the robe in 1972.  I thought the right thing to do was to pay homage to the robe with a little ceremony.  Let me know what you think:

Or perhaps, Cody, that might be:  “Hole-ly, hole-ly, hole-ly…..”

Although I was honored to wear those robes in their “later” years, the red and blue will be missed!  🙂

Here’s some more to go with Tim’s thoughts:

Philip: It is right to give our thanks and praise, always and everywhere, for the stoles, zippers, and buttons that have
aided us, and have kept us adorned in proper choir attire.  Now, as we give thanks for these garments for the last time,
let us join with the angels, adorned in their heavenly choir robes, as we sing their unending hymn of praise, “Holy, holy, holy….”

    Wonderful!  Hilarious and poignant!
We retired/replaced the Vanderbilt choir robes after similar service.  Out of about 100 old, old robes, 20 were still in good condition.  We were able to give them to a small church choir that made new stoles for them and sent us pictures, greatly pleasing the students and me too.

Wish I’d thought to create such a memorable liturgy.  Bravo to you, Phil.

    Philip:
May new robes be with you.

    Choir and Alumni:
    And also with you.
