Vacation . . .
For some people that term conjures dreams of lying on a seaside beach amid flowing palm trees. For others it’s fly fishing in an icy mountain stream.
For ACDA Executive Director Tim Sharp, his 2011 summer “vacation” cast him in the role of Principal Guest Conductor at the Festival of the Aegean on the island of Syros, Greece. Rather than whiling away a sunny afternoon with frothy beach reading, Tim took his summer vacation this year to conduct Verdi’s La Traviata, Rachmaninov's Vespers, and John Rutter's Requiem in this international festival.
“I know of no choral conductor who would consider this kind of activity ‘work,’” Tim said. “The purpose of any vacation is refreshment and renewal. This wonderful artistic experience did all that for me, and much more. Plus, I came home with a tan.”
