The Next Wave: Rock Choir

June 17, 2011 by philip copeland Leave a Comment

If this came on last Thursday night, I missed it.  Did anyone see it?  The Choir That Rocks

Described here on A Cappella News:

A recent phenomenon in England is the emergence of the Rock Choir. Created in 2005 by director Caroline Redman Lusher, Rock Choir is the first choir to offer a very different experience in contrast to the traditional classical or community choir, pioneering a new approach to singing and entertainment for the general public to experience.

This is FAR inferior to what Sweet Adelines Chorus have been doing for decades around the world (though admittedly mostly in the U.S.). Just watch this and you’ll see what I mean. Barbershop is somewhat similar, though superior, to what you’re seeing in this video. See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMfMhc2J43w

Rock Choir is certainly NOT the “first choir to offer a very different experience in contrast to the traditional classical or community choir”! There are people out there who have been doing this kind of stuff for years.

She’s just very good at marketing. (After all she managed to get a TV documentary to promote her work!). She’s turned her choir concept into a ‘brand’ like KFC (note the TM after the name) and she franchises it out across the country. She admits she’s a failed pop singer and watching some of the footage it looks like just an excuse for her to sing solo with a large choir behind her.

I must admit she’s a very clever businesswoman though.
