Two American University Choirs did very well in the 2011 Florilege Vocal de Tours Competition last week: The University of Maryland and the University of Houston.
Maryland was directed by Edward Maclary who also won the prestigious "Prix du Chef de choeur" – an award given to a conductor for his expert direction of a choir. Maryland also won an award for their performance of a Renaissance setting of a Ronsard poem.
Betsy Weber and her choir won an award for a "first production" work with their performance of David Ashley White's "I Cannot Live With You".
Congratulations, choirs and directors, and thank you for representing us on the international stage. For the 2011 competition, 14 choirs from 12 countries were selected : Canada, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Latvia, Moldova, Philippines, Serbia, United States. The international jury was made up of 11 choral musicians from Belgium, Bulgaria, England, France, Japan, Lithuania, Switzerland.
