I was delighted to receive a message from Martin Morrel, who sent me this note after reading my previous posts on Monteverdi:
I happened to run across your interesting post, which prompts me to call your attention to my Web site, www.italianmadrigal.com. I have made available quite a number of transcriptions of Monteverdi madrigals, including “Ecco mormorar l’onde” and the sestina “Lagrime dell’amante al sepolcro dell’amata,” both of which you mention. The madrigals may be downloaded as scores in PDF format or as MIDI files; text and translations are also available.
Martin has developed a beautiful site and I encourage you to look into it.
He lists these goals for the project on the first page:
This site has both an immediate and a longer-term objective. The immediate objective is to make generally available a large number of modern transcriptions of Italian madrigals that I have produced over the last several years. The longer-term objective is to serve as a resource center and focal point for like-minded people who may be seeking, for example, additional information about the repertoire, assistance with texts and translations, or help in locating singers to form or supplement madrigal groups.
Congrats, Martin, and please continue developing the site!
