TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader.
Philip: Are there really choral directors who aren’t away of the effects of room acoustics? Hard to believe! Certainly composers MUST be aware, and you can tell in Handel’s music that he really was.
But I have to disagree with Vern’s second point. He’s talking about precision, granted, but it’s in a WET acoustic that more attention has to be paid to diction, and in particular to consonants. That’s when you need “English Cathedral Diction” because the reverb burries the words.
And if I may ask, what the heck does TED stand for?!!
