Terms of (ab)use

June 24, 2010 by Allen H Simon Leave a Comment

I won't tell you what website this came from, but when registering you have to click a checkbox agreeing to the "terms of use". If you click on the words "terms of use" to read them, this is what you get. Should I agree to these?

Somebody threw their website together in a hurry.

Lorum ipsum lingua Latina certe non est!  Tibi suadeo ne clickeas.  (Clickere  =  to click.)  🙂  OK, I’ve just made it up, so who says Latin is dead?!)  Just don’t click on it.

It’s lorum ipsum, not Latin.  A printer’s device used for arcane reasons unfathomable to rational minds.

By the way, the text is not real Latin, but a pseudo-Latin filler called Lorem Ipsum, which has been used since the 1500s as a dummy placeholder while the actual article text is not yet available.

Errr…Cogito, ergo sum?  Requiescat in pace, amen?  I suspect it’s either a huge joke, or, as you write, someone just tossed that in without thinking any further.  My Latin is extremely rusty, so I dare not attempt any translation whatsoever….but this is hilarious.
