family-choir
Any experience or tips for working with a ‘family-choir’ in a church? I am thinking two part songs, canons and such, that we can teach by rote and add percussion to for rhythmic interest. “family-choir”: parents with children who are mostly under age 12. Other caregivers and grandparents are not excluded from the mix. N
Mendelssohn: Laudate Pueri Dominum Op.39 No.2 — error m. 87?
Hello choral community! I am presently swamped with rehearsals from early morning to evening and cannot get to a library to check this out in collected works or other sources. Might you help me? In measure 87 of the Mendelssohn “Laudate Pueri Dominum” (Op30 No2), I wonder if the Soprano 2 should (could?) have […]
Russian Wedding Music?
Hi, Could anyone suggest a couple of pieces to be performed during a Russian wedding? The request was for something traditional, not necessarily religious (as this is a civil service). I am at a loss…thank you! Lisa
Moses Hogan paper on the history of the spiritual?
Does anyone have anything relating to a interest session or lecture delivered by Moses Hogan on the history of the spiritual? It was also about the techniques used by different generations of choral arrangers throughout the 20th century. I cannot find this in his spiritual anthologies or online, but I used to have a typed […]
Psalm 21
Could anyone direct me to the best rendition of the theme song for the Vicar of Dibley? (Psalm 21). Thanks!
Choir to Ensemble: Trend?
I’m fortunate to work for a midsize congregation in a large city. We have somewhat balanced our books and we are embarking on a very large building project – taking our huge mammoth old building apart, keeping some of the good architectural bits, and shrinking our square footage by three-quarters. They love music, are moving […]
Online Resources/Videos for Voice Training?
Hey all– I have an upcoming unit that I’m trying to put together for my choirs, and I really need to find some resources, especially audio and video, to help. Problem is that there is lots of this stuff available for pop technique, but not for proper classical voice training that I’ve been able to find. […]
Repertoire: Looking for an a cappella work for SATB octet
We are an a cappella SATB octet (2 voices to a part). We are in the process of planning a concert about music and would like to find a work (5 – 10 minutes long) to serve as an anchor piece. One of the members brought Britten’s Hymn to St. Cecilia, but a couple of us […]
looking for Bender anthem
I have been searching unsuccessfully for the Jan Bender anthem “I am the Good Shepherd.” (I’ve checked with the original publisher, usual commercial sheet music sources, internet, etc.) Does anyone have this in their choral library that would be willing to share a perusal copy with me? Many thanks.
Inventory and insurance of choral music library
We are a home school choir that rehearses at a church but stores its copies of music in the home of the music librarian. Is there anyone following a similar format that insures their choral music library (ours values at approx. $5K). Does anyone have suggestions for what to include on an Excel spreadsheet for […]
