Women composers in St. Louis

The season finale for the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus includes three recent works by Kerensa Briggs, Melissa Dunphy, and Sasha Johnson Manning. On this a cappella program the major work is SJM’s “Requiem” (in eight movements), which the chorus first sang back in 2006. It is complemented by another past SLCC commission, Dunphy’s “Voices of Gallipoli” which sets – to haunting effect – epitaphs found on Australian graves at Lone Pine Cemetery. At this concert on May 28 (3 pm) a world premiere by Kerensa Briggs sets a translation from Sophocles’ “Antigone” made by Philip Barnes, the choir’s conductor. One of St. Louis’s most lovely churches, St. Margaret of Scotland, hosts this culmination of the Chorus’s 67th annual season. Tickets are available on the website
