The Kansas City-based William Baker Festival Singers will conclude their Chicago residency in a joint performance with the Chicago-based Vox Venti, under the direction of Ed Frazier Davis. There will be one performance only, Sunday, April 28, 3:00 PM, at the St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church, 1424 N Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL 60610. Founded in 1998 by Music Director William O. Baker, the award-winning, 50-voice William Baker Festival Singers has been named second place national winners of the American Prize in Choral Performance and the Ernst Bacon Award for Service to American Music. The group has toured to 14 states and the nation’s capital for performances at Trinity Wall Street Church in NYC, the Washington National Cathedral, and Helzberg Hall, among many others. They have been heard in radio programs, including NPR’s Performance Today. Several of their nationally released recordings have been lauded in The American Record Guide and other publications.
Vox Venti was established in 2022 under the direction of composer/conductor Ed Frazier Davis. The 32-voice ensemble celebrates the music of marginalized populations and performs a world premier in almost every performance.
The April 28 program will include classic works by Durufle, Brahms, Bruckner, Whitacre, Nystedt, and Sweeden, along with the Festival Singers’ signature spirituals and gospel selections/
