Susquehanna Chorale to Perform at Mt. Gretna Tabernacle – Aug. 23rd

The critically acclaimed Susquehanna Chorale will perform a concert, My Favorite Things, at Mt. Gretna’s open-air Tabernacle on Sunday, Aug.23rd, at 7:00 p.m. The Chorale’s founder and artistic director, Linda L. Tedford, will conduct the Chorale in its appearance as part of Mt. Gretna’s Summer at the Tabernacle concert series.

My Favorite Things features Linda Tedford’s favorite pieces throughout her 45-year tenure. Conducting her final concert before stepping down from the podium, the concert features American composers in honor our nation’s 250^th birthday celebration. To be performed are Dan Forrest’s The Music of Living and Shalom, Mack Wilberg’s Bound for the Promised Land and My Song in the Night, Shawn Kirchner’s Bright Morning Stars and Unclouded Day, For the Sake of Our Children by Jefferey Ames, Sure on This Shining Night by Morten Lauridsen, as well as selections from Frostiana,Randall Thompson’s classic and beloved settings of poetry by Robert Frost. The concert concludes with a gospel arrangement of This Little Light of Mine followed by America and Make our Garden Grow from Candide. Filled with joy, memories, and beautiful music, this concert honors Linda’s life – a life that has enriched countless lives and truly cultivated a deep love for choral music.

There is no charge for admission, but a free-will offering to support the Tabernacle’s summer series will be collected. The Tabernacle is located at Third Street and Glossbrenner Avenue, Mt. Gretna (the Campmeeting side of Mt. Gretna).  

The Susquehanna Chorale was founded by Linda L. Tedford in 1981 and is a recipient of Chorus America’s most prestigious award, the Margaret Hillis Achievement Award for Choral Excellence. They have also been considered for GRAMMY-nomination several times for their recordings.

In 2011, Conductor Tedford was honored by the American Choral Directors Association of Pennsylvania with the Elaine Brown Award for lifelong commitment to excellence and leadership in the choral art. In 2013, she received Theatre Harrisburg’s Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts in the Capital Region.  In 2022 Tedford was the recipient of the Central Penn Journal’s Circle of Excellence Award.
