Very old and very new melodies featured in South Holland Master Chorale concerts
A 20th-century French religious composition that draws its inspiration from centuries-old monastic chant melodies will be featured in a pair of spring concerts by South Holland Master Chorale. The “Requiem” by French organist and composer Maurice Durufle will be the main work on the concerts May 18 in South Holland and June 1 in St. John, Indiana, at 4 pm Central.
Other works on the program include Mozart’s Misericordias Domini, Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, and Echo by American composer Rob Dietz.
Philip J. Bauman directs the 70-voice Chorale and will be accompanied by organist Mark Sudeith and a chamber orchestra.
