The award-winning San Gabriel Valley Choral Company (SGVCC) invites the public to attend its spring concert on Saturday, March 11th. “Songs of Hope” features songs from the 20th & 21st centuries that promote unity, beauty, and connection in the world using the poetry of Emily Bronte (“Days of Beauty” by Ola Gjeilo) and adaptations from Deuteronomy (We Are One” by Brian Tate). Other selections include “The Road Home” adapted by Stephan Paulus, “Earth Song” by contemporary composer Frank Ticheli, “It’s All Right” by Curtis Mayfield, and “I am the World” by Melissa Dunphy, which was commissioned by BBC Radio 3 in 2022. The concert will also highlight SGVCC singers with solo and small ensemble pieces. “Songs of Hope” will be performed in the sanctuary of the historic St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Monrovia at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 11th.

SGVCC is pleased to announce the premiere of a new SATB arrangement of Artistic Director Drew Corey’s composition titled, ‘We Make Music.” Ms. Corey is a composer, performer, and conductor whose practice focuses on bringing new choral music to a broader audience. She is an active artist in the Los Angeles area. In 2013, Drew founded the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble at the California Institute of the Arts to perform new works by students, faculty, and alumni. In early 2016, Ms. Corey co-founded C3LA: The Contemporary Choral Collective of Los Angeles, a collectively run ensemble dedicated to performing outstanding new choral music and providing a venue for multi-talented singer-composers and singer-conductors to collaborate. She composes, conducts, and sings with the ensemble. In 2019, she became composer-in-residence for the Iris Company, a dance company dedicated to creating thought-provoking and moving experiences through dance, immersive performance, and film. As a composer, she creates works for choir, chamber ensemble, and solo performance, as well as interdisciplinary works for orchestra, theater, and dance. Her works are known for featuring aleatoric structures, her signature cellular writing, floating melodies, and large harmonic textures. Ms. Corey received her degree in Composition from the California Institute of the Arts.

SGVCC has been bringing stunning choral music to the community since 1995. SGVCC’s mission is to connect singers and audiences through accessible and diverse programming, quality performances, and community service. SGVCC envisions a world elevated through the power of song. For more information, visit sgvccsingers.org.
