New York City’s finest chamber choir, Musica Viva NY, emphasizes one of its most significant tasks, which is the commissioning of new works. Front Row Center has referred to Musica Viva NY as “a treasured institution.” More than thirty singers and an orchestra will present beautiful music composed by three live American composers: Joseph Turrin, Gilda Lyons, and Richard Einhorn. The performance will take place at All Souls on the Upper East Side on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at five o’clock in the evening. As part of a journey that will result in an ambitious professional recording (Naxos, TBR 2024) of the compositions that are featured on this program, this performance is a part of that journey. Frederica von Stade, a mezzo-soprano, is making her debut at Musica Viva New York, right before she is inducted into the Opera Hall of Fame by OPERA America in the year 2024.
