The Saint Louis Chamber Chorus opens its 71st annual season this Sunday, October 4, with a program titled “A Consuming Fire.” A highlight of the repertoire will be the first performance of a new cycle of Sara Teasdale poems commissioned from the Latvian composer, Eriks Esenvalds. Those attending this concert will have the opportunity to meet Maestro Esenvalds who is flying to St. Louis for this world première. Other works on the program include passionate songs by Dan Forrest, Stephen Paulus, and Romantic lieder from Agnes Tyrrell, an Anglo-Moravian musician working in Brno in the middle of the 19th century.
