Evanston’s Bach Week Festival will conclude its 50th anniversary and final season with a performance of J. S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor, BWV 232, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 939 Hinman Avenue, Evanston, 50 years to the day that the festival launched on May 5, 1974.
Richard Webster, Bach Week’s music director since 1975 and a performer in the 1974 festival, says the B-Minor mass will be a “fantastic festival finale, a spectacular send-off.”
Bach B-Minor Mass is considered by many the greatest work in Western Classical music and the capstone of the composer’s career.
The performance will feature the following artists:
Josefien Stoppelenburg, soprano
Kathleen Felty, soprano
Susan Platts, contralto
Geoffrey Agpalo, tenor
David Govertsen, bass
North Park University Chamber Singers
