The 165-voice Summer Singers of Kansas will join with cantor, Dr. Joshua Markley, organist Dr. Jacob Hofeling, and percussionist Mark Lowry, to perform Ernest Bloch’s spectacular AVODATH HAKODESH (Sacred Service) in Kansas City’s incomparable Helzberg Hall of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Dr. William O. Baker will conduct the performance.
The Summer Singers of Kansas City, founded in 1999, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The chorus begins rehearsals each June to prepare a major masterwork for performance in August. The non-audition chorus attracts singers from more than 100 miles to be a part of the annual tradition. Past performances have included Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Beethoven’s Mass in C and Symphony No. 9; the Requiems of Brahms, Mozart and Faure, among many other works.
