The Connecticut Master Chorale, under the direction of Tina Johns Heidrich, will present its 23rd annual Holiday Prelude Concert on Sunday November 19, 2023 at 3:00pm at the First Congregational Church, 164 Deer Hill Avenue in Danbury.
Our welcome to the coming holiday season features an impressive collection of glorious holiday music, including “A Calypso Christmas”. We will present an eclectic program of outstanding choral music that includes old favorites, as well as exciting new compositions, for Winter, Advent, Hannukah and Christmas.
Our concert opens with the dynamic Break Forth with Joy, a festive tapestry of three beloved carols, and will also include Dan Forrest’s magical new arrangement of In the Bleak Midwinter, as well as the expressive and moving My Christmas Tree from the film Home Alone 2.
Celebrating the Caribbean with three different examples of calypso music, including one composed by our director, Tina Heidrich, “A Calypso Christmas” features the return of the ever-popular steel drums!
A nostalgic look back in time will include The Holiday Season, and an imaginative new jazz interpretation of Irving Berlin’s I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.
The concert will close with the rousing Talkin’ ‘Bout Jesus, with an original text that incorporates Who Is He in Yonder Stall? and delivers the good news of the Christmas story with the high level of excitement and joy that is found only in great Southern Gospel music.
The Chorale will be accompanied by the Connecticut Master Chorale Holiday Brass and Steel, and Joseph Jacovino on piano and organ.
