Just for once the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus lets it hair down with a concert titled “Classic Pop” that comprises some of the most skilled choral arrangements of popular songs of the past century. Songwriters such as Cole Porter, Billy Joel and Taylor Swift receive fresh interpretations by Richard Rodney Bennett, Orin Johnson, and Andre van der Merwe. The skill of adapting contemporary ballads for a sizable a cappella chorus will be demonstrated at The Sun in Grand Center, an historic theater constructed in 1913 and now fully restored for public performance. A highlight of the concert will be a brand-new arrangement of “Hurt” by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) made for the SLCC by Melissa Dunphy, who will fly to St. Louis for this premiere. Her score for double choir unaccompanied is ideally suited for the sonorous texture of the Chamber Chorus, one of America’s longest lived independent choirs. For more information, visit
