Livermore, Calif. – The Valley Concert Chorale, the Tri-Valley’s premier chorus, is seeking new singers for its upcoming 2023-2024 season of “Music to Soothe Your Soul.” Auditions are available by appointment in September. Details are as follows:

The Chorale is seeking experienced singers with sight-reading skills who enjoy singing exciting and challenging music. The Chorale performs three concert sets a season with a wide variety of music ranging from classical to contemporary, and folk to jazz. The Chorale’s 2023-2024 season begins with its annual holiday concerts in December titled “The Miracle of Christmas” with song selections both classical and contemporary. The March concerts will include Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, Mozart’s Ave Verum, Duruflé’s In Paradisum from his Requiem and of contemporary choral composers Ola Gjeilo and Pēteris Vasks. May’s concert, titled “On the Lighter Side” includes songs by Nat King Cole, Billy Joel, Elton John and Disney’s Movie Magic.
The 15-minute appointment will include vocalizing (to determine range), reading from one page of a motet, and a clapping exercise. Singers must commit to the season with Monday evening rehearsals held at the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore.

About the Director
John Emory Bush has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Valley Concert Chorale since 1998. He holds a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music and is also trained as a pianist, organist and harpist. He was Music Director and Conductor of the San Francisco Concert Chorale for eighteen seasons and Director of Music and Organist at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Cathedral in Dallas from 2000-2010. Mr. Bush is Music Director of Music and Organist at First United Methodist Church, McKinney, Texas. For the past 22 years, Mr. Bush has divided his time between the Bay Area and Dallas, contributing to both musical communities.
