The New York Virtuoso Singers conducted by Harold Rosenbaum will present “American Invention,” a concert of vibrant American choral music from the 18th century to today. The program embraces the inventive and adventurous spirit that has been part of American music’s DNA since its beginnings and will feature World or New York premieres by Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Tania León and Anthony Davis along with those by Elena Ruehr, Peter Zummo, Edie Hill, David Patterson and William McClelland. There will also be works by the outstanding living American composers Annea Lockwood, Jessie Montgomery, Mari Esabel Valverde and Nancy Wertsch, as well as earlier American music and arrangements by William Billings, Charles Ives, Florence Price, Henry Cowell, Milton Babbitt and William Appling.
