Clerestory, the Bay Area’s acclaimed nine-member vocal ensemble, with repertoire spanning Renaissance, folk, Americana, and contemporary composers, is proud to present a return to the public stage with a holiday celebratory concert.
From countertenor to bass, Clerestory’s singers have been called “distinctive voices blending in a gorgeous sound” by SF Classical Voice. Now in their 17th season, the self-led ensemble tells the “clear story” of ethereal “a cappella” polyphony from across the centuries.
The men of Clerestory ring in the holidays with their first Christmas concerts since 2019.”Sweet Was the Song” evokes the joy and mystery of the season with carols spanning a thousand years, all rooted in ancient texts. From Renaissance masters like Tallis, Josquin, and Lassus, to 20th century choral craftsmen Britten, Howells, and Rutter, to several present-day song smiths, the Christmas story is brought to life through music at once timeless and new.
$35, free to students through high school, and $17.50 for Higher Ed students.
