Voices of Silicon Valley (VoSV) celebrates its 10th anniversary with a concert featuring music from the Academy Award-nominated score of *Gladiator* and select pieces from the video game *Genshin Impact*. This dynamic performance blends music, multimedia, and technology to engage contemporary audiences. “This concert aligns with our mission to provide a platform for avant-garde musical collaborations,” says VoSV Board President Andy Liu.
The concert showcases music by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard from *Gladiator*, which won Best Picture at the 2001 Academy Awards. Other notable works include selections from the video game soundtracks of *Genshin Impact* and *Portal 2*, alongside Peter Shin’s Grammy Award-winning composition *Bits Torn from Words*. Shin’s work explores themes of mental health and healing through elements of Korean culture.
One of the highlights of *From Gladiator to Genshin Impact* is the premiere of a commissioned piece by composer Alexander Frank, featuring lyrics written by ChatGPT. Additionally, the ensemble will perform Arnold Schoenberg’s choral masterpiece *Friede auf Erden* and present the California premiere of a new piano work by Lei Liang, a Grawemeyer award-winning composer. Liang’s music is inspired by the sounds of nature, particularly recordings from deep in the ocean.
“Voices of Silicon Valley is dedicated to addressing important social issues through diverse musical programs,” says Artistic Director Cyril Deaconoff. “We are thrilled to present works by Chinese and Korean composers while also focusing on themes like mental health and environmental awareness.”
