Now’s your chance to be a part of the Bay Area’s Uncommon Chorus!
The Grammy-nominated Pacific Edge Voices will be holding auditions on August 26th in North Berkeley. Auditions are open to all voice parts, with a special appeal for tenors and basses.
Why you would thrive in PEV:
You like to sing Bach and Handel and live for a big group melisma…but you also yearn to splash around in a big harmony pool that is Lauridsen or Whitacre…oh, but minor seconds are fun too, like Gene Puerling arrangements or some classic Manhattan Transfer. But really, at the end of the day, what you are belting in your car is Beyonce and Billy Joel. Music is music is music is music – especially when done well with a great community of singers.
About PEV:
Each season has a varied repertoire that often includes concerts of classical work from all eras, African-American spirituals and, in our A Cappella Jazz & Pop concert, every conceivable genre – ‘hardly strictly’ jazz & pop! Our Jazz & Pop concert is also an opportunity for in-house arrangers to workshop their pieces with the group and see their creations come to life. We also have our annual fundraiser gala and other special events and retreats.
The 2019-2020 season will be PEV’s 40th year, with lots of exciting retrospectives and new pieces in the works.
Our past collaborations have included Bobby McFerrin, Sufjan Stevens, Meredith Monk, and Sweet Honey in the Rock. Explore our website for music samples and more information on our history.
We rehearse in Berkeley (Monday nights; near North Berkeley BART) and perform in both San Francisco and the East Bay. Solo opportunities are auditioned from within the chorus, so both solo and choral singers are welcome.
