The Finnish composer Tapio Tuomela’s (b. 1958) Pace for mixed choir is an appeal for peace. The eight-voice work (SSAATTBB) is inspired by the enigmatic opening of Carlo Gesualdo’s madrigal “Moro, lasso” (1611). A fragment of the Gospel of John is heard recited in the local language of the performance: “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you […]” Rhythmically accelerating chromatic outbreaks culminate the 9-minute work.
