Melodia Women’s Choir of NYC, led by Cynthia Powell, Artistic Director, is an acclaimed ensemble of 25+ volunteer singers who explore and perform both classical and contemporary works composed for women’s voices and instrumental ensembles. Melodia is a professionally-managed, grant-funded organization. Concerts are presented in November and April/May in New York City each season. We are currently auditioning sopranos and altos for our 20th season.
Celebrating Melodia’s 20th anniversary, Melodia will present a dramatic presentation exploring women’s political actions for human rights throughout history with a cast of actors, featuring music of the various periods by composers, including Amy Beach, Julia Ward Howe, Florence B. Price, Fanny Mendelssohn, to name a few. A new commissioned work will also be featured.
Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7 – 9:30pm in the West Village, with some additional rehearsals in the week of the concerts. Singers are vaccinated and masked during rehearsals. Sight reading ability and choral experience needed. High-level, friendly group. Contact for an audition. More info and clips: melodiawomenschoirnyc.org.
