We are moving to Slidell, LA next month. I’m seeking an SATB group to join, more secular music than sacred. I know there are several in New Orleans, however, I’d rather avoid that drive at night. Thanx in advance.

Well, LA is a BIG place. If you know what area of the city you are living in, you will be able to find a group to suit you where you can sing without driving through LA traffic. Here are a few:
Angeles Chorale
Angel City Chorale
AVOLA (I think they still call themselves that)
There are also choirs in areas east of Pasadena and in nearby Ventura county.
Best wishes,

We would be delighted if you would consider Symphony Chorus of New Orleans. Check out our website at http://www.symphonychorus.org. We do a mix of sacred and secular music, and the sacred music we do tends to be choral masterworks in concert. In other words, we are a non-sectarian, community -based, volunteer chorus – not a church choir. Our weekly rehearsals do take place on Tuesday evenings, but they are held at Delgado Community College which is right off of the I-10 at the City Park exit or the 610 at Canal St. I would be happy to welcome you to the area and discuss SCNO. There are also some possibilities along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi, but that would have you driving just as far in the opposite direction. Let me know if you want to learn more about this option. Regardless of where you end up, I am confident you will find a warm welcome among New Orleans choral singers and directors.
