Sacred and Profane is a chamber chorus committed to the accomplished presentation of the rich and varied art of a cappella choral music. Our repertoire encompasses a diverse blend of styles and periods, including medieval through contemporary, sacred and secular, traditional, ethnic, and folk styles. We present our concerts in San Francisco and the East Bay.
Rehearsals for Sacred & Profane’s 2023-24 season begin September 11th, 2023.

Frequently asked questions:
How often do you rehearse? Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 PM at a church in downtown Oakland a few blocks from BART (many of our choristers carpool from all over the East Bay and even San Francisco, so don’t be discouraged if you live outside of Oakland!). Depending on the season, rehearsals begin two to three months before each concert.
Do you hold extra rehearsals when concerts get closer? For each concert, we have one dress rehearsal per venue, as well as one or two additional rehearsals at some point in the season (typically on Wednesday nights). Typically, we also hold one “retreat” per season, which takes place midseason on a Saturday from 10 AM – 4 PM (with a nice break for a potluck lunch in the middle!) These extra rehearsals are dependent on public health guidelines.
What about sectional rehearsals? Sectional rehearsals are occasionally scheduled before regular rehearsals or on other days, as needed.
