Now in its 78th season, the 90-voice Masterworks Chorale is holding auditions for all voice parts. The repertoire for Music Director Kevin Leong’s inaugural season includes Beethoven’s Mass in C, Duruflé’s Requiem, and Bach’s Magnificat.
Auditions for all voice parts are scheduled during two Open Rehearsals for prospective new members: Tuesdays, September 5 and 12, 7:30–10 pm, at Beth El Temple Center (2 Concord Avenue, Belmont, MA 02478; near Fresh Pond Circle, Cambridge). Concerts will be performed in Sanders Theatre, Cambridge, and Old South Church, Boston.
Rehearsals held Tuesday evenings, 7:30–10:00 pm at Beth El Temple Center in Belmont. Plenty of free parking. Direct access via bus from Harvard Square.
If you would like to audition, please send an email with your name, address, and phone number to or call (617) 858-6785 and leave this information on our voice mail. We will supply additional audition and scheduling information at that time.
Our auditions consist of the following components:
Solo of your choosing to be sung with piano accompaniment. Choose something that you know well and which you feel shows your voice to its best advantage. The piece does not have to be memorized. Past choices for solos have included arias, art songs, or hymns (your voice part in a choral work is not acceptable as a solo). Songs may be sung in English. A piano accompanist will be provided for you, and you should bring a copy of your music for the accompanist.
Sight Reading. Consideration is given to accuracy of notes, intervals, and rhythm.
