Inviting volunteer singers in St. Louis

September 20, 2019 by Philip Barnes Leave a Comment

Third Baptist Church, located in the Grand Center district of St. Louis, has openings for sopranos and altos in its Sunday choir. Schedule for members include a weekly Wednesday evening rehearsal (7 – 8:30 pm) and Sunday morning service (10:30 rehearsal for 11 am service). Additional calls include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Holy Wednesday. Five Sundays per year are not choral.

The repertoire is eclectic, including premieres and commissions, with a particular focus on women composers. Past lists are available on the church’s website. Resources for the choir include the second largest pipe organ in the city, and a new Steinway D grand piano. The church describes itself as “a different kind of Baptist.” For more information or to set up an audition please email Director of Music, Dr. Philip Barnes, at pbarnes (at) third-baptist.org
