The Cathedral Choir at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Colorado Springs, CO, has openings for an Alto Section Leader, Tenor Section Leader, and Bass Section Leader. The Cathedral Choir sings for the 9:00 a.m. Solemn Mass on Sundays, with warm-up at 8:15 a.m. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. There are also additional liturgies at Christmas, during Holy Week, and various announced Holy Days throughout the year. Repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to the best of 20th century sacred music. Section Leaders also serve as cantors on a rotating basis for the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and the 4:00 p.m. Saturday vigil mass (approximately 1 of each per month).
Requirements:
The Cathedral Section Leaders must have excellent vocal skills and a love of choral music. Whilst serving as leaders within the choir and forming the core of the ensemble, they should also be able to assist with creating a unified, blended sound. They should feel comfortable singing with a healthy, straight tone. While most music will be distributed well in advance, the Section Leaders should have good sight-reading abilities. They should have a positive attitude, and a willingness to coach and encourage volunteer choir members. Solo and small ensemble opportunities will be available throughout the year.
Pay is $50 per week, with an additional $25 for serving as cantor at Saturday masses. There is the opportunity for additional income from weddings, funerals, and diocesan liturgies.
