Call for scores – November 20 Deadline
Cantus, the nation’s only full-time male vocal chamber ensemble, is searching for works to include in America Will Be!, their spring concert program.
America Will Be! is a narrative-based program about civil rights focused through the lenses of gender, race, and sexual orientation. We are hoping to shed light on subjects that involve and affect all of us. For America Will Be!, we are looking for one or more pieces that addresses the following key points in our narrative:
– Pieces about race, gender, or sexual orientation in past or modern-day society. This could be a general reflection or from a personal perspective.
– Pieces that charge people to make a societal difference. This could be on a local or national level, offering messages of change.
– Pieces about building community. This could also be on a local or national level, offering messages about human connection.
Further specifics:
– There is no entry fee.
– Pieces should be between 3-5 minutes long and scored for TTBB, a cappella. Preference will be given to up-tempo works with a positive or hopeful message, though these are not mutually exclusive.
– Composers must have secured rights for texts within their works.
– The America Will Be! program will have five performances throughout the Twin Cities area. Chosen works will also be considered for future Cantus programs and recordings.
– Cantus will purchase 10 copies of chosen works, and composers will be given a live concert recording for personal use (pending approval).
